Ink on paper, framed. Pu Ru was a traditional Chinese painter and calligrapher and a member of the Manchu Aisin Gioro clan, the ruling house of the Qing Dynasty. He was a cousin to Puyi, the last Emperor of China. He was reputed to be as talented as the famous southern artist Zhang Daqian. Together, they became known as "Pu of the North and Zhang of the South." PROVENANCE: Gift from S.Y. Lee to the current owner. She was born in 1906, studied with the daughter of Chen Shuren who was a famous revolutionist and painter in the early 20th Century.
