Ph?nix-Tischchen. Roter Schnitzlack. Ming-Zeit oder sp?terRechteckige Platte, umrahmt von einem M?anderband, über einer geschweiften Zarge und vier geschwungenen Beinen. Die Platte in tiefem Relief beschnitzt mit zwei Paaren von Ph?nixen, deren K?rper sich elegant im Flug zwischen einem dichten Grund von P?onienblüten und -bl?ttern, über einer Felsformation drehen. Die Zarge und die Beine beschnitzt mit einem durchgehenden Muster von P?onien, die von kleinen im Flug oder auf Zweigen sitzenden V?geln durchsetzt sind. Die Unterseite schwarz lackiert. Rest. Der Tisch zeigt eine Vielzahl von Glücksmotiven: Die Kombination von Ph?nix (dem K?nig der V?gel, sp?ter in Verbindung gebracht mit der Kaiserin) und P?onien (K?nig der Blumen) symbolisiert Glück, gro?en Segen und Wohlstand, der Fels und die P?onie, die zusammen den Rebus changming fugui bilden, stehen für Reichtum und Langlebigkeit, sowie die Langlebigkeit, die durch den M?ander symbolisiert wird. Allerdings sind vier Ph?nixe (was vielleicht auf die vier Jahreszeiten hindeutet) in der chinesischen Kunst selten zu sehen, w?hrend viele Beispiele mit einem Ph?nix-Paar in ?hnlich dichten Blumen- und Blattmustern auf Lackwaren der Ming-Zeit zu finden sind. Ming dynasty or possibly laterOf rectangular section, the top plate framed by a meander band above a curved apron and cabriole legs. The top deeply carved with two pairs of phoenixes, their bodies elegantly rotating mid-flight between a thick pattern of peony blossoms and leaves, all above an expressive rock formation. The apron and legs carved with a continuous pattern of peonies interspersed by small birds in flight or perching on branches. The underside lacquered black. Restored. The table offers a variety of auspicious motifs: the combination of the phoenix (the king of birds, later associated with the empress) and the peony (king of flowers) symbolises happiness, great blessings and prosperity, the rock and peony for wealth and longevity, together forming the rebus changming fugui, as well as longevity symbolized by the meander. However, four phoenix (perhaps suggesting the four seasons) are rarely seen on Chinese decorative arts, whilst many examples featuring pairs of phoenix in similarly dense flower and foliage patterns are found on Ming dynasty lacquer ware.
