Ladakh/Tibet. 18th/19th c. Pigments and gold on fabric. The finely and detailed painted thangka shows the last Dharmaraja king of the Shambhala empire fighting the battle against the negative forces with his warriors in order to help Buddhism to flourish again. Right above the Heruka Kalachakra in yab yum with his wisdom partner Vishmamata. For the mounting a piece from a courtly Chinese robe (chaofu) was used with four-clawed dragons on a blue background, which can probably be dated to the 18th century. 63.5x42.5cm, complete 131x69cm. Comprehensive consecration inscription in Lantsa writing and a large stupa on the backMounted with Chinese silk as hanging scroll. Condition B/C. Traces of age. Professionely restored and preserved. Supplement: Small Buddhist manuscript. Ink and color on paper. Ladakh, 19th/20th c. Provenance: -Private collection Northern Germany. Acquired 1969 in Ladakh, city Leh, from the monastery Thiksey.
