Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-8 A.D.), very rare!!! Original and reflect piece. - The result of the CT scan-X-ray test # 180820–S–3 is consistent with the dating of the item, Han dynasty (ca. 2150 years old). The result of the thermoluminescence test, is consistent with the dating of the item, Han dynasty (ca. 2150 years old). Sampling in 2 different points. High 35 cm. Original pigments!Fired in Antiquity!!! To the best of our knowledge, a similar piece was not shown / sold in Europa for the last 30 years. The Entertainer is a masterpiece and very rare regarding its style, details, pigment and period (Sui dynasty). Christie's London had only auctioned a similar figure in 1996. Since then no second one has come on the market. This is a once in a life time opportunity to buy such exceptional work of art.Similar kneeling entertainer (see photo# 40 and 41) can be found in Han Yangling Museum, Xi’an, p. 99, pl. 158. Only three kneeling entertainers had been found it the tomb of the Emperor Yangling. This confirms the rarity of those kneeling entertainers.The fine features and recessed eyes on the face of this figure suggest that it may have been molded by hand, giving it an almost lifelike presence, unlike the most common types of Han dynasty ladies which are formed in molds.The present lot can be compare to a kneeling entertainer included in Christie’s London sale, 16 December 1996, lot #65.Outstanding pottery "mingqi" representing A Fine Painted Grey Pottery Kneeling Entertainer.Grey earthenware coated with white slip and remains of yellow, white, black, and red pigment. The kneeling figure wearing a robe tied at the hips with a red sash hugging the slender body, the loose sleeves revealing a thick pink undergarment exposed form the elbow to the wrist, arranged in folds around the neck and visible at the hem gathering to either side of her crossed feet. Her hands held up before her as is holding on object she is contemplating. Her serene face delicately molded with a serene expression. Her hair combed back into a low chignon bellow her collar with one stand falling loose to her sash, extensive traces of original pigment remaining. Minor restorations by elbows and forearms. For the rest and its age very good condition.- Provenance: Dutch private collection.
