The style of this painting can be related to Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining, 1688-1766), the Italian painter who was active for the imperial court at Beijing in the 18th century, realizing paintings which combines European and Chinese styles and techniques. Among the paintings he produced, a very famous set of ten hanging scrolls entitled Ten Five Hounds in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, which could have been a sort of source of inspiration for this painting.
