Description: A PAIR OF WOOD, TEXTILE AND BEADS FIGURES
Ivory Coast, Kulango
100 cm high each
Provenance: Vittorio Bellini (1936-2009) collection.
This rare pair of monumental sculptures is striking for the solemnity of pose and intensity of the gaze, and at the same time for the refinement of the carved details that simulate scarification. Despite having stylistic features that refer to the sculpture of the nearby Baule, these statues are the work of an anonymous Kulango artist.
