Unsigned, shakudo kozuka with silver and gold
Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)
A fine kozuka with a slightly raised rim, showing on a fine nanakoji ground two resting oxen (ushi) in takazogan highlighted with some minute details in gold and silver. The ox is on the second place among the animals of the zodiac and symbolizes spring and wealth because of flourishing agriculture, further it is the mount of the Laozi (known as Roshi in Japan).
