AN IRON, COPPER AND GOLD TSUBA DEPICTING SAMURAI WARRIORS AMID ROCKS BY GENKO

An oval-round tsuba with openwork as well as two hitsu. Several warriors in armor are depicted between rocks and under pine trees, presumably a scene from the Genpei War between the Minamoto and Taira clans. One of the warriors has the horns known as kuwa-gata?on his helmet. Semi-sculptural relief with copper zogan as well as some gold. Signed KOSHU GENKO saku, stylistically this is in the direction of the Soten school.
