AN INDOOR LADIES ARCHERY SET?
Japan, around 1800. This rare indoor archery set for noble ladies consists of a ‘sparrows’ bow (suzume koyumi) with three sections, all of which bear neatly incised signatures, and a handle covered with shark skin. Coming with its matching box with two drawers, one of which is holding the twelve original arrows made of bamboo, this is a fine amusement set from Edo period nobility. (14)
