The jar of elongated oval form exquisitely painted with the scene of ‘Washing the Elephant’; the full frontal representation of the elephant masterfully painted, the beast looking on with some trepidation as four servants are about to wash him, all against a hatched criss-cross border and ‘V’ shaped grasses, to the side a Buddhist monk and a military figure stand, the picture completed by swirling clouds and rockwork, the base unglazed. Period: Shunzhi/early Kangxi (1644 - 1680). Height: 28 cm.
