A SET OF FOUR HARDWOOD CONTINUOUS YOKEBACK ARMCHAIRS (NANGUANMAOYI), each with an arched crest rail, the gently serpentine armrests continuing in a curve to the corner posts, raised on gently splayed legs joined by low stretchers, 18/19th century, height c. 97 cm, 47 x 57 cm PROVENANCE:In the collection of the Swedish expert on mining geology and author, Felix Tegengren (1884-1980). He worked in China 1914-1917 together with the archaeologist and geologist Johan Gunnar Andersson, 'Kina-Gunnar', as advisors for the Chinese government. Tegengren brought the armchairs home to Sweden in 1917.
