An Edwardian silver inkstand
by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield 1903 Rectangular, with pierced sides, holding two glass ink wells, engraved with an inscription "Souvenir of The Launch of The Turret Steamer Malmland April 30th 1904"
during World War One the turret steamer Malmland was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U17 on 8th August 1915, length 32cm, weight without ink wells 40oz.

Torpedoed by U.17 about 5 miles N by 1/2 E of Peterhead on passage Narvik for Rotterdam with iron ore.She had been intercepted and taken prize by Royal Navy, at the time of loss was under a British prize crew, bound from Kirkwall to Middlesbrough to discharge her cargo.
