An example of an Erard musci stand can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, in the British Galleries, Room 120, The Wolfson Galleries, case 16. The firm of Erard, played a significant role in the development of musical instruments. Sébastien Erard moved to London in the 1790s, and opened his business in 1792 at 18 Great Marlborough St, Soho. He invented the Double Action Harp and the double escapement piano. The company also sold cases, extra strings and at least two varieties of music stands: mahogany and 'japanned and gilded'
