Description: bronze, Bihar, North-India, 8th / 9th century, Size: 19 cm Buddha sitting on double lotus base on a square tile supported by two elephants. He is sitting in lotus pose with hands formed in mudra, around him an oval aureole with beaded rim and an umbrella or parasol called chatra, one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols. The Buddha is wearing simple robes, no jewellery adorns his body. The elongated earlobes flank his face, the expression is attentive but friendly.
