It was designed as a mini computer to be worn on the wrists of pilots, so they could make in flight calculations such as fuel consumption, average speeds or climbing speeds. Earlier examples of the Navitimer came with beaded bezels and were marketed to the AOPA (Aircraft and Pilot Association). Over time the Navitimer was updated with various dial designs. In 1965 the beaded bezel was replaced for a milled edge, which can be found on this example. It is also at this time that the Twin Jet logo can be found on the dial.
