“Gli occhi di Leonardo” by Giovanni Cerri, 2019, mixed technique on canvas, 130x180 cms – The painting was done in preparation for the exhibition on "Milan and Leonardo" for Westend Galerie in Frankfurt, in occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of the genius that was da Vinci and in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the twinning of Milan with the German city. The author took inspiration from the famous self-portrait drawing that Leonardo did as an older man concentrating on his eyes in semidarkness: it is difficult to examine deeply such a complex and mysterious person, we can only compare and magnify a "particular" and ask ourselves what thoughts could have run through that great mind.
