Early 24th-22nd century BC. A carved agate Old Akkadian cylinder seal with presentation scene, a bearded god wears a flounced robe, has his hair at the back of the head in an artfully laid bun, and seats on a throne with side grid pattern; raising his right hand he faces left a standard in the form of a high pole, standing on a small pedestal and ending up in a hemisphere, at its bottom a feather or a narrow piece of textile is attached obliquely, he is approached by three bearded gods with long pleated skirts; the first, with naked upper body, holds a lotus flower in front of his stomach in his clasped hands; the second with a flounced cape over his right shoulder raises his left hand; ibex behind throne with cuneiform text above; accompanied by a museum quality seal impression. 30.7 grams, 40mm (1 1/2"). Property of a Bristol collector; formerly part of his father's collection formed between 1960-late 1970s. Very fine condition.
