Mid 20th-mid 18th century BC. A carved haematite Old Assyrian cylinder seal with presentation scene; on the left an enthroned bearded god, wearing a crested cap and a strapless robe, decorated on the side with a ball border, seats facing right on a chair with backrest bent backwards, on which the god supports his right elbow; in the left raised hand he holds a cup; in front of him the bearded worshipper with hands folded in front of the belly, facing left, in a long fringed robe with a vertical ball border in the middle; behind him a bearded interceding god in a long robe, raising both hands; both men also with a crested cap, one of the typical features of the Old Assyrian style; between the enthroned god and the worshipper a crescent and an ostrich, between worshipper and the interceding god a goat-fish, associated with the god Ea (ENKI); line borders at top and bottom; accompanied by a museum quality impression. 5.15 grams, 19mm (3/4"). Property of a Bristol collector; formerly part of his father's collection formed between 1960-late 1970s. Very fine condition.
