Bronze sculpture titled "The Fan" by Bessie Potter Vonnoh (American, 1872-1955). "Cast by Griffoul Newark" foundry mark on back of base. Signed by Vonnoh alongside right foot. About 11-1/4" high. Modeled around 1909-1910. According to a Sotheby's catalog note: A period review of the 1912-1913 Winter Exhibition of the National Academy of Design in New York referenced another example of this work when reporting; "Bessie Potter Vonnoh was at her best in her exquisite statuettes, "Youth," "An Ideal," "Good Night," "The Fan" and "Butterflies" (Art and Progress, 1913).
