Tow letters total, first is a long letter front and back dated July 13, (1862) recounting several days from the 7 Days Battle outside of Richmond Va. from a member of the 53rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteers (Semmes Brigade), first name of Grant. Some highlights of the letter include "grape and shot as thick as hail", witness to 4 feet high stack of legs, arms, and hands, the killing of 18 horses as they did not get behind a fence soon enough, litters of bodies on the ground in every possible position, and much more. 15.5" x 9". Sold with an additional letter dated August 18th, 1861 and speaks of the rise of 3000 Yankees in vision, also outside Richmond Va., signed Alvin Hays (most likely 13th Regiment, Georgia Infantry). 9.5" x 7.5". Condition: First letter with separation at creases, both with toning.
