Ca.300 AD. Gandhara Stucco of a elegant stucco youthful Buddha - also known as Shakyamuni Buddha, Gautama Buddha or Siddhartha Gautama, the crown prince of the Shakya Kingdom, who ultimately achieved Enlightenment and issued teachings upon which Buddhism was founded. The Buddha stands on a Lotus Flower, his hands resting in his lap in the Dhyana Mudra, as if he is meditating beneath the Bodhi tree. The Buddha's face is finely modelled with elegant features including heavy-lidded, downcast eyes, an elegantly arched browline leading to an aquiline nose, gently smiling closed lips, and stretched earlobes symbolizing his rejection of the material world in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment - all topped by an incised curly coiffure with a large ushnisha symbolizing his newfound knowledge upon Enlightenment. A special example of Greco-Buddhist art that demonstrates a strong syncretism between eastern and western traditions. overall good condition; on custom made stand; 390mm/W:165mm/H:460mm( 15.35in, 6.49in, 18.11in) (with stand); 3150gr; Provenance: From an old Professional British collection, acquired on the UK art market in the 1970s, All Items sold by Pax Romana Auctions come with professional Certificate of Authenticity.
