Bothmann 1845.Provenienzüber Erbfolge bis heute im Familenbesitz der Nachkommen von Andreas Matthiessen.Das Gem?lde zeigt die Familie von Andreas Matthiessen, eines ursprünglich aus Deutschland stammenden Eigentümers einer Porzellanmanufaktur in St. Petersburg. Auf der Rückseite des m?glicherweise originalen Rahmens listet ein handschriftlicher Klebezettel die dargestellten Familienmitglieder auf, unter ihnen ?Adele, Gr?fin Ozarowska geb. Matthiessen“, bei der es sich um das im Vordergrund sitzende M?dchen im wei?en Kleid handeln dürfte, das sp?ter in die Adelsfamilie Ozarowski einheiratete. Das Gem?lde befindet sich bis heute im Besitz von Nachfahren bzw. Verwandten der Familie Matthiessen.über den Maler unseres Portraits ist nur wenig bekannt. Wie sein Auftraggeber stammte Bothmann wohl ursprünglich aus Deutschland. M?glicherweise ist ihm das im Lübecker St. Annen-Museum aufbewahrte Portrait des Ch. L. Herrstr?m und seiner Ehefrau zuzuweisen. W?hrend verschiedene Künstlerlexika bislang davon ausgingen, dass Bothman ab 1846 in Russland ans?ssig war, belegt unser 1845 datiertes Gem?lde nun eine mindestens ein Jahr frühere Ankunft des Künstlers. In Russland schuf Bothmann u.a. Bothmann 1845.ProvenanceIn family ownership to the descendents of Andreas Matthiessen.The present work depicts the family of Andreas Matthiessen, the German owner of a porcelain factory in St. Petersburg. The back of the (possibly original) frame bears a hand-written label listing the family members, including "Adele, Gr?fin Ozarowska geb. Matthiessen", which could be the girl seated at the front in the white dress, who later married into the aristocratic Ozarowski family. The painting is currently in the ownership of descendants and relatives of the Matthiesen family.Little is known of the artist who painted this work. Like his patron, Bothmann is thought also to have originally come from Germany. He may have known the portrait of Ch. L. Herrstr?m and his wife kept in the St. Annen-Museum in Lübeck. Whilst several art encyclopedias have previously assumed that Bothmann moved to Russia in 1846, the fact that the present work is dated 1845 proves that he arrived a full year earlier. When in Russia, Bothmann painted portraits of Tsars Nicholas I and Alexander II.
