A BRONZE SCHOLAR’S ROCK, QING
China, 18th-19th century. Naturalistically cast in the form of a scholar’s rock wrought out with vertical orientation, the bronze surface pitted with jagged crevices and patinated to a smooth dark brown, almost black tone.
Provenance: From a French estate.
Condition: Excellent condition with some old wear and traces of use.
Weight: 4.3 kilograms (the bronze) and 778.4 grams (the base)
Dimensions: Height 38.5 cm
With a matching wooden stand, the carving replicating some of the rocky patterns. (2)
