A MINIATURE BRONZE MODEL OF A FANGDING
China, Qing dynasty. The miniaturized ritual food vessel stands on four legs and bears fine archaistic décor in light relief below key fret borders and two looped handles at the upper rim. Finely applied artificial malachite-green and iron-red patina.
Provenance: From a French estate.
Condition: Good condition with old wear and traces of use.

Miniature models of ancient ritual bronzes were popular objects among scholars and literati during the Qianlong period and shortly thereafter. They were used as desk items for various purposes, the present lot likely as an inkwell for at least some time, considering the black remainders on its inside.
