A FINE LION HEAD BRONZE VASE, MING
China, 1368-1644. The slender vase with flaring foot rim and recessed base, the shoulders with two powerful and neatly incised lion masks in high relief, the inside with incised pictogram characters, superb iron-red and chocolate brown natural patina.
Provenance: From a highly important German private collection, acquired in China ca. 1930. Galerie Zacke, Bronzes from the Ming Dynasty, March 5th, 1987, lot 21. A copy of the catalogue entry accompanies this lot. From a private collection in Vienna, Austria. Acquired in the local market between 1970 and 1990. Thence by descent.
Condition: Fine condition with some dents, nicks and old wear.
