Description:
A SMALL BRONZE OF GUANYIN, LIAO DYNASTY
China, 916-1125. The heavily cast figure seated in dhyanasana and dressed in long flowing robes draping over the shoulders and falling in undulated folds over arms and knees leaving the torso bare. The face with gentle features set in a benevolent expression, framed by pendulous ears and neatly incised hair surmounted by a cowl.
Provenance: From a private estate.
Condition: Extensive wear and some dents. Minor losses at the lower edge. Unsealed. The bronze richly patinated to a warm chocolate-brown color with traces of lacquer gilding remaining, the base unsealed.
