A BRONZE OF A DAOIST IMMORTAL, MING
China, 16th -17th century. The sage cast seated as a dignitary wearing an elaborately decorated cap of office, his beard hanging down his chest embellished with a rectangular-shaped clasp holding the robe, his hands holding a scepter, the figure with remainders of fine lacquer gilding.
Provenance: From a private estate. By repute acquired in the local auction market before 1980 and thence by descent.
Condition: Very good condition with extensive wear and losses to lacquer gilding. The throne slightly warped.

Note the finely executed throne with a neatly incised rug to the backside and ruyi-shaped recesses to front and sides. Additional incision work to the numerous borders of the robe.
