A GILT COPPER STATUE OF MANJUSRI
Tibetan-Chinese, 17th-18th century. The statue is seated in vajrasana on a double lotus base, the proper left hand shows the gesture of vitarka mudra, a lotus stem blooming above the left shoulder. Note the superb fire-gilding and remarkably fine incision work.
Provenance: From a particular French collection.
Condition: Good condition with some wear and traces of use, dings to back and lower edges of base, the sword and few of the inlaid stones missing, minor casting flaws, tiny nicks and stress lines. Sealed.

The magnificent tiara and necklaces, armlets and earrings are sumptuously inlaid with coral and turquoise. The celestial bands, hair, chignon and beaded chains bear very fine detail. The hair and face show old blue, red and white pigments. The seal plate with a crossed vajra emblem.
