Description:
A COPPER-BRONZE STATUE OF BODHISATTVA
Tibetan-Chinese, 15th – 16th century. Bodhisattva is seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base with both hands showing the gesture of wish granting, the varada mudra. Double vajra symbol neatly incised to seal plate.
Provenance: From the collection of Alexander Popov in Novi Sad, Kingdom of Serbia, acquired between 1900-1920. A copy of an old black and white photo, dating to early 1930s, with the collector’s cabinet, and the present statue within, is accompanying this lot.
Condition: Good condition with some wear, verdigris, abrasions and minor dents, the tips of the tiara slightly bent, fine natural patina. Sealed.

The figure shows a serene expression with a gentle smile and downcast eyes, wears long flowing robes and celestial bands as well as beaded jewelry, disc earrings and an eight-lobed tiara surrounding the high chignon.
