Description:
A MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID LACQUER BOX, MING
China, 16th – early 17th century. The circular box is meticulously inlaid with minute mother-of-pearl segments into the lacquered ground in imitation of tortoise shell to depict a scene of a noble lady riding on a mule below are gnarly pine tree, the sides neatly decorated with key fret borders.
Provenance: British private collection.
Condition: Excellent condition with old wear, some microscopic age cracks and losses to inlays. The base and inside with more extensive wear.
