The cloisonné enamels depict continuously scrolling flowers, associated foliage and vines in red, green, yellow, white and turquoise cloisonné enamels on a dark-blue ground.
The delicately incised Jingtai six-character mark on the current candle holder is closely related to that on a circular cloisonné enamel box and cover in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, enameled with lotus flowers, and catalogued as Jingtai mark and period, illustrated in Enamel Ware in the Ming and Qing Dynasty, National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1999, cat. no. 1. It is also related to the Jingtai mark on a dish from the Speelman collection, sold at Sotheby’s, 3rd April 2018, lot 3406.
