Description:
A LAPIS LAZULI CARVING OF A LION DOG, QING
China, 18th-19th century. In recumbent pose with bulging eyes and mouth agape, its long horn running down its back towards a curled tail. The mineral of intense lapis blue with silver-grey streaks. Fine incisions and smooth finish.
Provenance: Ernest Hart, Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire in the 1970s. Private collection, acquired from the above. Thence by descent.
Condition: Fine condition with some old wear and good patina.

Note that there are two small piercings cleverly hidden below the horn so that this lot may also be used as pendant.
