Description:
A RARE PAIR OF BUDDHIST LIONS, QING
China, 18th- 19th century. Heavily modeled to depict two fierce lions with open jaws, baring teeth, pierced nostrils, bulging eyes and protruding spine. Nicely glazed in the yellow, green and aubergine palette, the raised tongues painted in red.
Provenance: Boston private estate, USA.
Condition: Fine condition with small repairs to one claw and one tooth. Minor old wear and traces of use. The red cold painting to the raised flames is mostly worn off, revealing the biscuit porcelain below.
