AN ENAMELED PORCELAIN FIGURE OF GUANYIN
China, late 18th- earlier 19th century. Portrayed standing and holding a scroll, the face with downcast eyes and benevolent expression, wearing a beaded necklace. A cowl draped over the chignon, the long flowing robe decorated with a pattern of multicolored triangles, the borders gilt accented.
Provenance: From a French collector.
Condition: Good condition with tiny losses to fingertips, some kiln grit and firing flaws, old wear.

Early triangular patterns such as the one on the present robe are believed to have influenced French Art Deco artist Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979) who co-founded the Orphism movement, noted for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes.
