Description:
AN UNUSUAL PINK AND WHITE BANDED AGATE SNUFF BOTTLE
China, 1730-1850, possibly Imperial. The bottle is hollowed extremely well so that it floats in the water. It has striking banded and crystalline patterns in shades of pink, purple and white, left plain to focus on the beauty of the mineral, its pattern closely resembling a snowy mountain ridge at sunset.
Provenance: From a French private collection.
Condition: Excellent condition with only minor natural flaws and fissures to mineral.
Stopper: Glass in imitation of tourmaline on turquoise-colored platelet, fine old spoon
Weight: 80 grams
Dimensions: Height including stopper 73 mm. Diameter neck 23 mm and mouth 7 mm.
The rounded, almost circular bottle is raised on an oval foot rim.
Auction result comparison: For another pink agate bottle see Christies New York on September 19th, 2013, in Fine Chinese Jade Carvings and Works of Art From the Lizzadro Collection (Part II), lot 1239.
