Description:
A RED OVERLAY GLASS ‘BAJIXIANG’ SNUFF BOTTLE
China, 1750-1840. The bottle, of flattened circular shape, is carved through the ruby-red overlay to the bubble-suffused, transparent ground with the Eight Buddhist Emblems (bajixiang), two on each side, and four more on the narrow sides, all above an oval foot ring.
Provenance: French private collection.
Condition: Excellent condition with one minuscule nick and microscopic nibbling to mouth and lip.
Stopper: Green glass cabochon on a black platelet with fine old spoon
