AN INSIDE-PAINTED CRYSTAL SNUFF BOTTLE, YE ZHONGSAN
China, dated winter of Yimao year, corresponding to 1915. The interior of the well carved smoky quartz bottle finely painted with a continuous scene of children in a garden playing blind-man’s-bluff and ring around the Rosie. Signed Ye Zhongsan with one seal, yin, and carved lion masks to both shoulders.
Provenance: From the collection of W. B. Tapp (deceased 1992), Bristol, England.
Condition: Superb condition with only minor wear.
Stopper: Glass cabochon in imitation of jadeite, metal spoon

Ye began painting his well-known children subjects in 1896 and continued to do so throughout his career. The subject conveys a desire for male progeny and carries a blessing for abundant descendants.
