Description:
AN AVENTURINE GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
China, 1740-1840, probably Imperial glassworks. The body composed of a single gold-speckled glass layer situated between two further layers of transparent glass. Compressed rectangular form with a straight neck, convex lip and raised oval foot rim.
Provenance: From the collection of W. B. Tapp (deceased 1992), Bristol, England.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear, minute chip to foot, and few microscopic nibbles.
Stopper: Stained bone cabochon
Weight: 19.5 grams including stopper (note the light weight typical for early glass bottles)
Dimensions: Height including stopper 61 mm. Diameter neck 12 mm and mouth 6 mm
