A FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN SNUFF BOTTLE
China, Qianlong four-character seal mark to base and most likely of the period (1736-1795), or possibly a bit later (1796-1840).
Provenance: From a French estate.
Condition: Shallow chip to lip, old wear, tiny firing flaws, some of the calligraphy on the backside is worn off.
Stopper: Matching porcelain stopper, carved in the shape of a single blossom. Rare!

Of flattened spade shape surmounted by a waisted neck, vividly decorated in polychrome enamels with peonies and other flowers amid their vines and leaves and a small rock, the back with a poem related to the Chu–Han conflict (206–202 BC), the narrow sides painted in underglaze-blue with floral sprays.
