A SILVER REPOUSSé MANUSCRIPT COVER
Tibet, late 18th – earlier 19th century. A gilt Buddha Shakyamuni is seated on a lotus throne in front of a flaming mandorla, one hand holding an alms bowl, the other in bhumisparsha mudra, flanked by two Bodhisattvas and two Buddhist lions.
Provenance: An old Bavarian private collection of Tibetan works of art.
Condition: Very good condition with fine patina, some wear, minor dents and nicks here and there.

An inlaid turquoise to each corner, the border with the Eight Auspicious Symbols bajixiang. Finely chiseled, incised and embossed silver and copper repoussé.
