A GILT COPPER REPOUSSé RELIEF
Nepal, 18th – 19th century. Depiction of Lakshmi-Narayana, a manifestation of Vishnu when with his consort in Vaikuntha. Vishnu holds his classic attributes: conch, discus, lotus and mace. Lakshmi stands in Tribhanga with her hands in Abhaya and Varada mudra.
Provenance: Old English private collection of Buddhist art.
Condition: Losses, piercings and denting as seen on images. Overall fine and well-presentable condition. Extensive old soiling to backside. Good patina.

Note the finely incised Sanskrit inscription below the flaming Mandorla. Both figures wear dhoti, tiaras and jewelry, all of which show particularly fine incision and embossing work.
