A RARE BONE CARVING OF BUDDHA
India, 10th – 12th century. Extremely fine carving with depiction of Buddha seated in Padmasana, the hands in Namaskara mudra, adorned with rich jewelry and two heavenly bands that connect to the pedestal with portrayals of worshipping figures es well as Hindu deities such as Ganesha and Makara.
Provenance: Old German private collection.
Condition: Old losses to lower and upper rim of base. Traces of color, especially to base. Naturally grown patina of buff color with decent golden-brown luster.
