AN IVORY STATUE OF BUDDHA
Sri Lanka, Kandy period, late 17th to mid-18th century. Finely carved standing, Buddha shows the abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness, and wears a dhoti with neatly incised wave pattern. His face shows serene expression and benevolent spirit.
Provenance: From a French private collection. Two old inventory labels to base.
Condition: Fine golden-yellow patina. Losses, age cracks, wear and traces of use as visible on the catalogue image and at www.zacke.at.
