A Cantonese ivory fan with 20 sticks; each stick of typical reticulated form carved with designs of Manchu/Chinese figures and gardens; diameter when open about 30 cm. Qing DynastyProvenance: The Property of a Lady. One stick of the fan with small label stating 'Tomkinson Collection/24'.Presumably the label here refers to the famous collection of Asian Art formed by Michael Tomkinson [1841-1921]. For another example of the Tomkinson label, see the okimono illustrated in 'The Golden Age of Japanese Okimono/Dr. A.M. Kanter's Collection' by Laura Bordignon.PLEASE NOTE: THIS ITEM CONTAINS OR IS MADE OF IVORY. Buyers must be aware that regulations of several countries, including USA, prohibit the import of ivory, or any goods containing ivory. Ewbank's advise prospective purchasers who intend to ship this lot to another country that they must familiarise themselves with the relevant import/export regulations prior to bidding. They are responsible for their shipping arrangements, and the onus is therefore on them to arrange their own shipping.. Please note that there is some deterioration to this fan, including an area of repair, or a split, to one of the end sticks.
