Augustus II (the Strong), who throughout his career was the Elector of Saxony, King of Poland, and Grand Duke of Lithuania, had a passion for porcelain. During his lifetime, he collected up to 29,000 pieces of East Asian porcelain, as well as sponsoring the European discovery of porcelain technology and the founding of the Meissen factory.
