Of Tien Qi period (1621 - 1627). During the short reign of Tia Qi, relatively less imperial porcelain was produce. A small number of imperial wares are of high quality and marked "Nei Fu" (內府, office of the imperial court),as shown on this bowl. This bowl has a perfect shape of the palace bowl (Gon Wan, 宮碗), very fine clay body similar to that of Kangxi period 40 years later. It has a smooth and unctuous glaze, except a minor glaze imperfection near the root of the tree. The underglaze cobalt blue is intense but dull blue that was used on imperial wares of late Ming and early Qing. The painting style is simplistic but depicting a wiseman Jiang Tai Gong (Gon Wan, (姜太公)and the fishing scene vividly, a style of late Ming, which is very different from Qing porcelain painting that usually with finer brush and depicting more details. It depicts 3100 years ago, Jiang Tai Gong fishing by the Wee Swui river (Wei River, 渭水), using a "straight hook to get fish to jump 3 feet above the water to get hooked. This made him known to many important people. Then the King of Zhou invited him to be prime minister when he was around 80 years old. Jiang then led Zhou army to defeat Shan and established Zhou Dynasty. The colophon state: The time when he was fishing at Wee Sui, and in dreaming in the Chi mountain (where he lived). Nei Fu mark is on the outer base, indicating the bowl was made for the imperial court. The political situation during late Ming was very unstable so that some imperial wares were marked Nei Fu, because by the time the porcelain was made the emperor might have changed.
