Important large and heavy bronze figure of a caparisoned elephant with dragon reliefs on its flanks and carrying a pagoda on its back, in five parts and marked: Fukui Yoshi’uji seishi (made by F.Y.) The figure is personification of an auspicious Chinese pun symbolizing peace and happiness: ‘taiping you xiang’ an elephant (xiang, also: image) carrying a vase (ping, also: peace) or a pagoda on its back.
