OTHER NOTES
Sir Stuart Alexander Donaldson (1812-1867) was a British merchant and pastoralist who served as the first Premier of the Colony of New South Wales from 6 June 1856 to 25 August 1856. The brevity of his term was owing to being frustrated in his duties by a lack of majority support in the newly formed Legislative Assembly, which led him to resign after his party lost a vote two months and twenty days into his term of office. John Strange Chapman was a surgeon with the 11th Regiment of Foot, who would have made the acquaintance of Donaldson during a period spent in Sydney from 1846-1851.
