19th century ceremonial weaving, "Pua kombu sungkit", cotton, Iban people, Borneo. Such textiles played an important role in headhunting ceremonies. The heads of killed people were wrapped in such cloths prior to mummification which was performed later. The sungkit weaving process is now extinct. Size: 78'' x 24.5'' (198 x 62 cm).
