Antique Phnom Da style Khmer Lakshmi (probably). A probable statue of Lakshmi in the Phnom Da style. However, the sculpture could be of another female Devi or deity. The figure is clad in a traditional Khmer dhoti. The forms is full, frontal and hieratic. The Phnom Da style would be the first to bring it out from the relief of the wall and dress it in space in a free standing form, In fact to make a sculpture in the round. It is clear that the artist anticipated this sculpture being enjoyed from all sides. Provenance: Ex- private US Collection. Please contact us for high resolution images of the piece.
